A Half Day on the Hiwave

A Half Day on the Hiwave

I rolled up to the lake just after sunrise, coffee in one hand, Hiwave board in the other. Five minutes to inflate, two to clip on the bungee, and I was gliding past glassy water before most folks even found their keys. That’s the magic I keep coming back for—no drama, just go.

The board feels steady without being sluggish. I can drop to my knees to cast near the reeds, then pop up and paddle across the cove without thinking about balance. I rigged a small crate under the front bungees—tackle, water, a snack—and it all stayed put while I worked a slow retrieve. A bass hammered the lure, I whooped, and a pair of herons gave me the side-eye. Perfect.

Later, I paddled toward the sunny side where the breeze picks up. The nose tracks straight, so each stroke actually takes you somewhere. When a wake rolled through, the deck stayed quiet and grippy—no slip, no squeak, just a small bounce and we were on our way. I took ten minutes to just sit cross-legged, toes in the water, thinking about nothing in particular. That’s the part I never plan and always remember.

Packing up was just as easy: quick rinse, deflate, roll, done. Back in the trunk with room to spare. If you want a board that makes “let’s go for a quick paddle” actually quick—and actually fun—the Hiwave keeps that promise.
